Movers & Shakers: Kayo, Pinterest, Pedestrian Group

It's hard to keep up with all the latest moves across media, marketing and advertising, so we've made a list. Check out the biggest moves in adland this week.

Kayo’s new commercial boss
Kayo Sports, the Foxtel-owned sports streaming platform, has appointed Anthony Hearne to the newly-created role of chief commercial officer. Hearne will focus on leading commercial strategies and customer acquisition and management.He joins Kayo after recently returning from New York where he was chief commercial officer for marketing technology startup Rokt.

Pinterest reveals Australia team
Pinterest revealed its Sydney-based team for its first Australian office. Former Facebook account manager Carin Lee-Skelton joins as country manager for Australia and New Zealand. Lee-Skelton most recently served as Pinterest’s partner manager in the UK for four years and has been building its local team. She is joined by Spotify’s former head of sales Cassie Gilbert who steps into the same role. Also joining the team as partner managers are Buzzfeed’s Frank Masterson, ComScore’s Kimberley Hollis and Google’s Scott McIntyre and Shannon Rootsey.

Pedestrian MD jumps ship to Val Morgan
Pedestrian Group managing director Brian Florido is leaving the Nine publication next month to head up Val Morgan’s publishing venture Val Morgan Digital (VMD). Florido had been as Pedestrian for more than seven years and has also worked at OMD Australia and Zenith. The new digital publication will focus on entertainment, lifestyle and health.

whiteGREY strategy director exits
whiteGREY strategy director Warwick Heathwood has left the agency after just five months in the role. Heathwood joined whiteGREY's Sydney office in April after a stint in the US working at WPP-owned SET Creative in New York. He has also held roles locally at agencies including TBWA/Sydney, Isobar, Leo Burnett and BMF. Heathwood is currently seeking freelance and contract work.

Catalano bring in Tony Kendall
Former HT&E chief revenue officer Tony Kendall has joined Australian Community Media (ACM) to conduct a review of the business, following its acquisition by Antony Catalano. Kendall, who left the HT&E business in January as part of a round of redundancies, will lead a review of all aspects of ACM’s sales operations across national, local and digital.

BWM Dentsu welcomes and farewells
BWM Dentsu has appointed Paul Arena as executive strategy director of its Melbourne office, while its Sydney office sees the departure of managing director Alex Carr. Arena joins the agency after seven years at TBWA Melbourne where he held a number of roles in planning and strategy. After nearly four years, Alex Carr has departed his role as managing director at BWM Dentsu Sydney. A spokesperson from BWM Dentsu has confirmed Carr left to "pursue a fresh professional challenge".

Nine looks for new CFO
Nine is closing in on a new chief financial officer after Greg Barnes announced he is leaving the business after three years in the role. Barnes first joined the media company in July 2016 and recently oversaw Nine’s takeover of Fairfax Media. He has also served as the chair of CarAdvice and as a director of Stan. Barnes will be stepping down from the role at the end of the month following the release of the FY19 results.

'Shingy' departs Verizon Media
Verizon Media's self-described 'digital prophet' David 'Shingy' Shing has exited the business after more than 10 years. Shing, an Australian-born executive, had been with business in various high ranking marketing roles since 2007, going through the many changes in ownership. Shing stated it was time to explore new paths. He also cited fatherhood as another reason behind the change.

Creative duo leave DDB for Special Group
Special Group Australia has nabbed Jade Manning and Vince Osmond from DDB Sydney, naming them as its creative director team. Manning and Osmond first teamed up in South Africa at DDB Johannesburg, then moved to TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris before moving to Australia and working at DDB Sydney. At DDB, they led the Volkswagen business and worked on the Skoda and McDonalds accounts.

The Remarkables Group expands Sydney team
Influencer agemcy The Remarkables Group has appointed Rebecca Fung as its Sydney-based strategy director. The appointment comes in response to the agency’s growth and expansion. Fung was recently senior content manager at First State Super and has also consulted for brands such as Coca-Cola, Toyota and Audible. She has also worked at Outbrain and MediaCom Beyond Advertising.

QMS grows team
QMS has appointed senior marketer Nick Errey to the newly created role of head of communications. Errey joins QMS with more than14 years of out-of-home experience. He was a key part of the oOh!media marketing leadership team that oversaw the company’s communications and corporate marketing activity through its growth phase.

Imagination bolsters tech team
Imagination Australia continues to expand its digital technology team with the appointment of Justine Marino as digital executive producer for its Sydney and Melbourne offices. Marino's experience spans almost 20 years in the industry. She has led production teams at agencies such as Holler, McCann, The Brand Shop and Clear Blue Day over the years, as well as producing digital projects for brands including Coca Cola, Telstra, Audi and Nestlé Australia.

Ford appoints new comms director
Matt Moran has been appointed as communications director for Ford Australia and New Zealand. Moran returns to his native Melbourne from Shanghai where he led corporate communications for Ford’s International Markets Group. He takes over from Martin Gunsberg who steps into a new global role as manager for mobility communications based in the US.

Nova hires publicist
Amy Ward has joined Nova Entertainment as publicist with a focus on Nova 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa breakfast show. Ward replaces Cathrine Mahoney and is based out of the Sydney office. With more than 14 years' experience in publicity and marketing across the entertainment, media and travel sectors in Australia and the UK, Ward has spent more than seven years at Southern Cross Austereo, working across the company’s television and radio platforms in multiple markets.
