Data: keep it clean.

GroupM is seeking to lure data scientists from the Asia-Pacific region into the GroupM fold by opening up a new data hub in Singapore, with help from the Singaporean government.

The WPP-backed group has opened a research and development lab in the Asia region, following similar hubs being set up in New York and London.

The aim is to create R&D in the data space it can apply to increasingly data-driven advertising product solutions for clients, but it will also act as a lure for PhD-level mathematicians to come into the fold.

With good data scientists rarer than hen's teeth, it is believed GroupM has already made an offer to several data scientists in the region to come on board.

“The rapid worldwide growth of data-driven advertising has driven a corresponding, and massive, demand for PhD-level data scientists to design and implement these next generation media technologies,” chief data officer and CEO of GroupM Analytics, Harvey Goldhersz, said.

“With today’s partnership, GroupM gains a valuable advantage in attracting the most astute and promising minds to our Singapore R&D operations while advancing Singapore as a world centre for the development of the industry’s most advanced media products.”

The regional hub will then feed into the Australian market.
