Fairfax stations will go live on the iHeartRadio portal at the end of this month.

Fairfax’s metropolitan and talkback stations will become the first non-Australian Radio Network (ARN) properties to be added to the iHeartRadio portal when they go live on the site at the end of this month.

IHeartRadio is the radio and streaming platform developed by what was formerly known as Clear Channel, and is now branded iHeartMedia, in the US. Locally it has launched as a joint venture with ARN which already replicates live streams of its stations on the digital platform.

Fairfax’s partnership with ARN marks the first time that a non-ARN owned Australian broadcaster has entered into an arrangement with iHeartRadio.

From late October listeners registered with iHeartRadio will be able to tune in to iHeartRadio to hear news and talk back from 2UE (Sydney), 3AW (Melbourne), 4BC (Brisbane), 6PR (Perth) and digital station NTS. Fairfax’s music and entertainment stations Magic 1278 in Melbourne, Magic 882 in Brisbane and 96fm in Perth will also be available.

Fairfax Radio Network CEO Adam Lang said: “Our stations put the audience at the very centre of our focus and this collaboration with iHeartRadio provides another great platform to engage our listeners. iHeartRadio is another excellent way to reach our listeners, wherever, whenever and however they wish.”

Since launching late in 2013, there have been 460,000 downloads of the iHeartRadio app.

ARN’s CEO Ciaran Davis added: “IHeartRadio is a key part of ARN’s digital offering and we’re always looking for ways to continue to provide great content for our audiences so we are really excited to be able to add some of Australia’s greatest talk back and news stations to our iHeartRadio platform.”

ARN was formerly a 50/50 joint venture between Clear Channel Media and APN News and Media. Although Clear Channel sold its stake to APN in February of this year, Clear Channel worked into the deal a local, longstanding licensing arrangement for iHeartRadio.
