OMD holds on to SCA despite ZenithOptimedia global deal

OMD has held on to the local media account for global paper giant SCA despite a global agreement being put in place with ZenithOptimedia in August last year.

SCA Hygiene is a foundation client from OMD’s entry into the Australian market in 2000. The contract, which is hubbed out of OMD Melbourne, incorporates media strategy, planning, buying and search for the Libra, Tena, Handee, Deeko and Sorbent brands. OMD said the account, handled out of Melbourne, was worth around $12 million in annual billings.

Andrew Phillips, executive general manager, Personal Care, SCA Hygiene Australasia said “SCA has had a productive history with OMD over many years and we are delighted to be extending our partnership.”

OMD Melbourne boss Steve Sinha said retaining its founder client “means an awful lot to us. SCA is a business that focuses on strategic thinking and innovation that is linked to business results." He said that approach "very much aligns with OMD’s philosophy".

SCA consolidated its roster globally in August last year, appointing ZenithOptimedia to handle media and BBDO and Publicis as creative agency partners.

"We look forward to contributing to SCA’s continued success in Australia as we remain very passionate about their business”.

The retention continues a solid start to April for Omnicom-owned agencies, with the news that PHD had picked up Priceline confirmed yesterday.
