LGBTI publication the Star Observer has launched a free monthly magazine today with advertisers including Defence Force Recruiting, Sydney Film Festival and Domayne.

Replacing the former weekly Star Observer newspaper, the magazine complements the more news-driven online site, focusing on in-depth current affairs and lifestyle features. The publisher says it's aiming to reach a more mainstream audience with the new title.

Sebastian Rice, chairman of Star Observer publisher Gay and Lesbian Community Publishing, said: "The Star Observer has been the trusted source of news for the Australian LGBTI community for more than three decades first in print and now online across our digital platforms.

“Our constantly updated news and entertainment website has a growing online and social media audience reaching more than 76,000 unique monthly visitors, with monthly page views up by 60% year-on-year.

“Our readers have been telling us they want more opportunities to enjoy our lifestyle and in-depth features, and it’s this that has led us to launch Star Observer Monthly, a professionally produced print and eBook publication that showcases great journalism, that fits around our audience’s lives and provides our advertisers with new opportunities to reach the LGBTI community."

Launch advertisers include Sydney Film Festival, Sydney Opera House, Defence and Domayne alongside established LGB organisations such as ACON and HIV Foundation Queensland.
