Too busy to read all the papers? Well, we're all about streamlining the process here at AdNews. Here's a short wrap of what the major mastheads are saying today.

First up is The Australian, which has reported that Fairfax will be putting up its paywalls “quite soon”, according to its chief executive Greg Hywood. The company has said it will be placing placing paywalls around its online versions of the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

Meanwhile, The Aus also has the scoop on ABC managing director Mark Scott's email to staff, which said the public broadcaster needs to “demonstrate strong returns to audiences” if it wants more media funding in the future.

The Australian Financial Review has reported that Fairfax will be standing in support of one of its journalists, Adele Ferguson, as she faces up against Gina Rinehart in a legal stoush in which Rinehart is trying to gain access to one of Ferguson's confidential sources.

The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age have reported that an additional $74 million will be funnelled into the federal government's advertising war chest, “despite the budget's bleak finances”.
