The Voice returned to the top of the free-to-air TV shows last night – while MasterChef Australia pulled in more than a million viewers.

Nine's The Voice, which is now on air on Monday nights only, won 1.324 million viewers across Australia's five metro areas, while Ten's MasterChef Australia took an audience of 1.074 million, finishing in seventh place.

The second episode of Seven's Anh Does, this time with the comedian taking on Brazil, failed to make the top 10, but was slightly up on last week's Sunday night audience of 729,000, with 765,000 people tuning in last night.

What Really Happens in Bali, also on Seven, slumped to 19th spot, with 626,000 viewers, compared to last week's 797,000, according to preliminary overnight ratings figures from OzTam.

The Voice set Nine up to take the biggest audience share, at 31%, following by Seven with 27.2%, the ABC with 19.2% and Ten with 16.7%.

News programs dominated the rest of the top 10.

Nine News ranked second, with an audience of 1.270 million, followed by Seven News with 1.240 million.

Completing the top 10 was Nine News at 6.30, fourth with 1.198 million viewers, Seven's Today Tonight, fifth with 1.136 million, Nine's A Current Affair, sixth with 1.076 million, Home and Away on Seven, eighth with 918,000, ABC News, ninth with 877,000, and ABC1's Australian Story, 10th with 787,000.
