Foxtel has come up trumps with earnings up 12.1% in the six months to December 31. The pay-TV provider benefited from the merger with Austar which helped cut overheads. Subscriptions also crept up.

Revenue for the company increased 7.2% to $1.554 billion while residential subscribers grew by 1.7% to 2.27 million.

The news comes after a strong end to the last financial year where, despite seeing a slowing in subscriber growth, Foxtel still managed to increase revenue by 8.5%.

Foxtel was in the headlines last month following changes to its movie packages and price changes to other packages including sports.
