2Day turns 2Gay FM for Mardi Gras push

Southern Cross Austereo's 2Day FM will change its name to 2Gay FM on Saturday to support the Mardi Gras parade.

Controversial radio network 2Day FM will this Saturday rebrand to 2Gay FM to support gay rights and celebrate the annual Mardi Gras parade.

The move, to reinforce its views on equality, will see all on-air presenters, including Jackie O, promotions and the stations' website take the moniker on Saturday, 2nd March.

Earlier in the week, presenters including Kyle Sandilands, Jackie O and Fifi Box, starred in an online video to support gay rights to the popular song 'Same Love' by artist Macklemore. The station claimed it was "a strong believer of all marriage equality" and asked consumers to "spread the love" among friends and family.

The Southern Cross Austereo-owned network also launched a national brand campaign last month called 'That Feeling' promoting its 2013 line-up. It featured returning personalities Hamish Blake and Andy Lee, Drive presenters Jules Lund and Fifi Box, in addition to its famous Breakfast duo Kyle and Jackie O. The commercial was part of a broader push running across out-of-home, online and social media.

The network is currently best known globally for its recent royal prank call, which was linked to the death of British nurse Jachintha Saldahna. The controversy saw it temporarily suspend all advertising and issue a permanent ban on all such calls. The male presenter involved, Michael Christian, has now returned to air.
