Lee Lin Chin wants Aussies to play with their selfies in Optus’ latest Olympic push.

Olympic athlete Ian Thorpe fronts the new campaign from Optus alongside an all-star cast of Lee Lin Chin and the Bondi Hipsters.

After Telstra stole Optus’ thunder as the official sponsor of the Rio Olympics, the telco is promoting its sponsorship title and its position of the communications and entertainment choice for Australians.

The tongue-in-cheek ad encourages Australians to show support to Olympians using the hashtag #FanUpAUS.

In the spot, Chin appears sporting a new green and gold do. She says: “You have the permission to play with your selfie. If you don’t you’ll be tried for treason you pathetic traitor.”

Thorpe says: “A simple photo or video can have a hugely positive impact on our athletes. These well wishes will serve as a timely reminder that the entire Australian population is behind them as they do their best to be successful in Rio.”

The ad finishes with the Bondi Hipsters who admit they've knicked Thorpie's medal, who also feature in their own Optus ad.

The two-minute spot, by We Are Social and Emotive, takes a slightly different approach to the Olympics, making a mockery of Olympic achievements.
