The latest episode of Droga5's “Fueled by Everything” campaign for Toyota Mirai draws on the popularity of 80s cult film Back to the Future.

The latest episode of Droga5 NYC's “Fueled by Everything” campaign for Mirai draws on the popularity of 80s cult film Back to the Future.

The ad was launched on October 21 – known as Back to the Future day by film enthusiasts – the day characters Marty McFly and Dr Emmett Brown time-travel to in the film's sequel.

In the five-minute ad, Droga5 introduce a new character Misha who meets up with the older Marty (Michael J Fox) and Doc (Christoper Lloyd) and collects their trash, taking poetic license from Doc's Mr Fusion machine which fueled Marty's DeLorean.

The tagline “Fueled by the Future” follows on from the agency's previous episodes Fueled by Bullsh*t, Fueled by Oil Creek, and Fueled by Lemonade.

The campaign was preceded by two teasers, based on memorable scenes from the film.
