Clemenger creates sun-stealing duo for Origin Energy

Here comes the sun, no, wait, there it goes. It's been stolen by a pair of loveable scamps in a new campaign from Origin Energy.

Clemenger BBDO Melbourne has come up with a duo of “loveable rogue sun stealers” as part of an integrated campaign for Origin Energy as it seeks to get more people buying solar panels.

The creative agency has created a series of mockumentary films following the aforementioned scamps, Ray and Evon, as they travel from roof to roof stealing sunshine, highlighting the lost potential of a roof without solar panels.

The campaign will include online advertising, outdoor, cinema advertising and a social media push.

Origin has also created an app whereby users can measure the amount of space on their roof by finding their homes on Google Maps, and then calculating how much energy they can generate by installing solar panels.

Traditionally, industry brand campaigns have rolled out via above the line mediums such as TV or print, but this campaign has headed to digital and social channels first.

“Energy is a low involvement category. So Origin needed to get their message across in an interesting way,” Clemenger BBDO Melbourne executive creative director Ant Keogh said.

"This unexpected approach is designed to make the average householder see they have an untapped resource sitting right there on their roof. Hopefully people will have a laugh and learn something along the way”.
