Keen to compare meerkats but want to chat to someone about it?

Compare the Meerkat's Aleksandr Orlov has been keeping busy while his long-suffering assistant Sergei recovers in hospital, and has launched a freephone comparison service – 1800 MEERKAT – for people who prefer to compare meerkats over the telephone.

By phoning the line, callers are told: “Welcomes to the official comparethemeerkat.com.au helping line – not comparethemarket.com.au insurance comparison line.”

Callers are invited to “press one” to compare the likes of Bushkat, Crockat, Footykat, Savinglifekat and Surfkat.

They can then, if they want, press four to speak to a Compare the Market health insurance comparison specialist.

Abigail Koch, spokesperson for comparethemarket.com.au, said: “We know Australians love the meerkats and thought a freephone comparison service would be a fun and engaging way for Aleksandr to interact with his fans. As always, our work with the meerkats brings an important message to Australians. Despite Aleksandr thinking they’re ‘mongoose brains’, we encourage consumers to consider their hospital cover options to avoid paying a higher-than-necessary tax bill next year.”

The freephone service is the latest iteration of Compare the Market's meerkat campaign.
