McIntyre Rants: Federal Government rules in favour of Pay TV on anti-siphoning - now for the dog fight

14 October 2010

The red-hot whispers today say the Federal Government has shafted the free-to-air TV networks on new anti-siphoning rules in favour of Pay TV.  An announcement is understood to be imminent.

The pay-TV sector is jumping for joy and sporting codes gleefully rubbing their hands in anticipation of a hike in the cost of broadcast rights because of a bigger pool of bidders coming their way.

No surprise, of course, that the free-to-air TV networks are growling. They remain split, however,  on whether to accept the Feds decision or stage a fierce counter-offensive.

Stay tuned. We could have a ripper of a dogfight coming our way in coming days.
