Robin Parkes, Executive Director
Magazine Publishers of Australia
With a wealth of industry experience, Robin Parkes has worked across sectors including TV, advertising and interactive media. 2012 saw the former Freeview boss propelled into publishing and named executive director of newly revitalised Magazine Publishers of Australia. Since joining heavyweights such as ACP’s Matt Stanton, Pacific Magazines’ Nick Chan and NewsLifeMedia’s Nicole Sheffield on the board, Parkes has been working towards establishing an enhanced market presence for the struggling magazine industry. With the sector in need of some serious TLC, 2013 will be a big year full of exciting challenges for Parkes. Watch this space.

Joe Pollard, Chief Executive
Publicis Mojo
As the first big hire of the new regime at the recently bought-out Publicis Mojo, former Ninemsn boss Joe Pollard is being carefully watched to see what she’s got in store for the agency. Having worked on both sides of the marketing fence, including a 10-year stint at Nike, Pollard is a force to be reckoned with.

Gina Rinehart, Executive Chair
Hancock Prospecting
Gina Rinehart, the world’s richest woman and one the country’s most powerful mining tycoons, is unlikely to seek out a simpler life, free from the media spotlight this year. While her bid for Fairfax board seats failed, she continues to dominate headlines. Expect to hear a lot more from her as she dips a whole foot in the media game in 2013.

Louise Barrett, Sales Director
ACP Magazines
Network Ten’s incoming national sales director, Louise Barrett, is definitely going to have her work cut out for her in 2013. The broadcaster’s woes seem to be never-ending these days, so the highly respected sales professional is going to have to bring some of that special magic she’s famous for. Industry consensus is she’s well and truly up for the challenge.

Katie Rigg-Smith, Chief Strategy Officer
Mindshare
As chief strategy officer of Mindshare, Katie Rigg-Smith is undoubtedly one of GroupM’s most respected staffers. The agency dominated in 2012, scooping NAB and retaining the Unilever business, not to mention winning awards. With Rigg-Smith leading the way, Mindshare has a good chance to keep the momentum going in 2013.

Loud
Loud’s Lorraine Jokovic is a passionate campaigner for gender balance in the workplace. 2012 saw Jokovic become the official spokesperson for the Communications Council’s Gender Diversity Group, spreading awareness about the gender imbalance in top marcomms roles. Carrie Bickmore, Presenter
The Project
Carrie Bickmore, co-presenter of Network Ten’s The Project, is a rare bright spark in the broadcaster’s talent line-up. With Ten banking on the show’s continued success as it seeks to re-establish itself in 2013, Bickmore’s role is a pivotal one. She regularly outshines Dave Hughes and Charlie Pickering – just don’t ask her to say ‘Qantas’.

Kara Jenkins, Creative Director
Visual Jazz Isobar
With over 15 years’ experience at agencies including Mercerbell, Tequila/TBWA and Clemenger BBDO Proximity, Kara Jenkins is currently flexing her expertise as Visual Jazz Isobar’s creative director. Melanie Brown, Celebrity Ambassador
Jenny Craig
The scary-turned-sassy former Spice Girl hasn’t featured this much in the Australian media since the early ‘90s. Launching back onto the local scene with a judging gig on The X-Factor, Mel B’s time Down Under also saw her front a major campaign for Jenny Craig. A favourite in the social pages and gossip columns, expect more drama in 2013.
