Social media. So ingrained in the fabric of society that the over 55s are liking things and LOLing to their heart's content. And now they are flocking to social TV.
Yep. Community TV channel Aurora's Facebook page for Jukebox Saturday Night proves the times they are a changing: social media 2.0 is older, slower, better...
Aurora's page promotes their Jukebox Saturday Night show, and the over 55s are logging in in droves... Well, maybe not in droves, but they're there.
Now let's not go all yihah grandma, the page only has around 2,400 likes, but last month the page had an average of 299 engaged users per post. That is pretty impressive, AdNews knows all too well, and most of these users were in the over 55 demographic.
“We identified a lack of quality content within Australian television that brought together the 55+ demographic, so we specifically sought out this program to help fill that gap,” Aurora marketing and social media manager Louise Lenihan said. “The program became a huge success – it’s now consistently our highest rating program – and it made sense for the family to be extended off screen where fans could further interact with the show and each other.
"Jukebox Saturday Night experiences an incredibly active social media following for this demographic, with fans posting, liking and commenting on the page whilst watching the show. It’s both exciting and rewarding to see an older demographic embrace Social TV, a concept usually reserved for younger generations.”
Well, not any more, Lou, not any more.
