Westpac has confirmed DDB Australia as its agency partner for its creative business following a pitch against Ogilvy.

DDB emerged victorious from a two-way pitch process after incumbent Big Red was dropped from the account. Big Red had been brought on by former head marketer Damian Eales, who departed following the arrival of Brian Hartzer to the number two job at the bank earlier this year.

Westpac acting general manager, strategic marketing Jim Tate said: “DDB demonstrated an excellent understanding and insight into our business that was evident through their creative presentations.

“There was great chemistry with the teams throughout the process and we are delighted to be working with a team with their leadership and creative capability.”

DDB Australia and New Zealand chairman and chief executive Marty O'Halloran said: “We made sure our best banking people were on this pitch regardless of geography. Both offices worked seamlessly together to produce outstanding work that clearly resonated with the Westpac team. We are delighted to be working with such great people at Westpac.”

Ogilvy remains on the Westpac Group roster for sub-brands St. George and Bank of Melbourne. Lavender's 15-year hold on the direct marketing account was unaffected by the review.

DDB also works with Westpac in New Zealand. Its Melbourne office previously worked with ANZ and the agency group almost bagged the Commonwealth Bank account earlier this year which went to M&C Saatchi.
