Network Ten's The Shire.

Despite the controversy which has surrounded Ten's yet-to-launch program The Shire, the network's chief executive James Warburton has vowed to push ahead with production.

Warburton said the company has met with several politicians in Sydney's Sutherland Shire, to address concerns the show would be similar to edgy US reality series Jersey Shore.

The controversy initially raised its head when The Shire was compared to Jersey Shore in a leaked promotional video, which raised the ire of the local council.

Following the meeting with local politicians, Warburton said, “We listened to their concerns and took the opportunity to outline the facts about The Shire. We explained that we are very much aware of our obligations under the Commercial Television Code of Practice.

“While Network Ten would prefer to work with Sutherland Shire Council, it was clear after the meeting that the council does not support The Shire.

“The council has no legal or moral right to censor The Shire. Production of The Shire will start next week, as planned.”

The leaked promotional video which compared The Shire to Jersey Shore has been taken off YouTube due to copyright infringement.
