Virgin Australia has boosted its marketing team with two senior executives.

EXCLUSIVE: Virgin Australia has appointed two senior marketing staff as it continues its brand offensive against rivals under the stewardship of former Qantas executive general manager John Borghetti.

David Anderson, a Scotsman formerly of the Intercontinental Hotel Group, Hilton International and British Airways, joins as general manager for brand strategy and performance.

Michael Scott, an Australian, joins as general manager for marketing and communications. He has previously been a marketing director at McDonald's UK, Nike Australia and New Zealand, and at Coles Myer. Most recently Scott ran his own consultancy. His blend of retail and marketing experience both locally and internationally landed him the role, according to Damian Tynan, partner at search firm Hourigan International.

Both will report into former head of brand and marketing turned chief customer officer Mark Hassell.

Anderson has started his new job. Scott officially takes up his role in March.
