The Oscars selfie: who was really behind it?

By AdNews | 11 April 2014

Maurice Levy, chairman and CEO of France’s ad/PR giant Publicis Groupe, has said during an interview in Cannes for Mip-TV that his teams were responsible for the viral selfies both at the Oscars and more recently the infamous selfie between President Obama and baseball star David Ortiz for Samsung phones.

While he wouldn't reveal exactly how involved his teams were in actually getting the photos taken, he did say that the earned media for the Oscars selfie alone was roughly valued at a billion dollars.

“The earned media — all the buzz which has been done around the Oscar [selfie] — represents roughly a value between $800 million to $1 billion US dollars, because it has been all over the world and the Samsung phone was either mentioned or seen,” Levy said.
