Network Ten has finally revealed a launch date for The Shire after months of speculation, with the program to air from 16 July at 8pm.

The launch of the controversial show has been a hot topic in the industry, with some suggesting it had been canned while others had implied the show was put on hold due to fears it would not rate.

Ten denied these allegations.

Despite the conjecture, Ten has revealed a launch date, and it is in less than a fortnight.

A new promo for the dramality series, which has been compared to US program Jersey Shore, has been aired on Channel Ten.

Network Ten chief programming officer David Mott said: “It's fun, it's feisty and it can't be stopped. The Shire will be a show that captivates, amuses and dare we say astounds audiences. Some will love it, some will hate it, everyone will want to watch it. July 16, 8pm, get ready for something you've never seen before on Australian TV.”

During the production phase of the program, the show raised the ire of the local politicians in Sydney's Sutherland Shire – where the show is based – who thought it would give the area a bad name.
