In another high-profile appointment, Network Ten has hired ACP Magazines director of sales Louise Barrett as national sales director.

Barrett will report to chief sales officer Barry O'Brien.

Her appointment comes just days after Ten confirmed Y&R Brands chief executive and chairman Russel Howcroft was joining as executive general manager, based in Melbourne.

Ten said Barrett will join the broadcaster in January 2013, however a report in The Australian Financial Review this morning argued a January start date might be optimistic, because ACP chief Matt Stanton has not released Barrett from her contract yet. The report said she has a one year non-compete clause in her contract.

O'Brien said: “Louise is the most highly respected sales director in the market. She has remarkable rapport with clients and agencies, and hiring her is an absolute coup for Ten.

“With the appointment of Louise and the return of our National Sales Manager, Kylie Rogers, from maternity leave in the new year, we will have a very formidable senior sales team at Ten.”

Barrett has worked previously as director of sales at 2UE, general manager of Macquarie Radio Network, director of group trading at PBL Media and director of Nine Entertainment Co's Powered.

Barrett said: ““I am thrilled to be joining the senior management team at Network Ten.

“I am truly passionate about television, having started my career in television, and I strongly believe that television and its many digital offerings will remain the dominant medium in Australian media in the years to come.”

ACP's owner Nine Entertainment Co is currently in the process of selling the business to German firm Bauer.
