American Yoghurt company Dannon has been accused of copying music from the Australian band John Butler Trio in its Super Bowl advertisement.
The commercial, which is aired during Monday's Super Bowl clash between the New York Giants and the New england Patriots, has been accused of copying John Butler Trio's song Zebra.
The Super Bowl hosts the most expensive ad spots in the world and tends to generate some of the best ads, with huge coverage.
Dannon issued an apology yesterday saying: “A question about the music in our Super Bowl commercial has been brought to our attention. We are working to fully understand and address the situation. We apologize for any concerns this has caused John Butler Trio's band members and fans.”
According to reports, the ad was created by was directed by 21-year-old Remy Neymarc who is a founder of the production company Neymarc Visuals.
On a blog called JonahLuke, the author Jonah claimed that he composed the song that appears in the Dannon yoghurt ad. Titled My Song in the Super Bowl, Jonah said: “A little instrumental piece I composed for my friends Remy and Andrew Neymarc last year is going to be in a Super Bowl commericial for Dannon Yogurt! Remy directed the commerical, making him the youngest director of a super bowl commerical ever.”
According to reports, The John Butler Trio is seeking advice on how to address the issue.
