Oh Pamela. Again she has again caused a stir. A raunchy Australian-made ad featuring the former Baywatch star and Playboy playmate covered in cream has been banned in the UK for sexism.
In the wake of the controversy surrounding the ad, the Australian agency who created the spot in 2010 has looked back and admitted it was not their "proudest moment".
The ad for Crazy Domains, which was originally created by The Brand Agency in Perth, shows Anderson in a golden bikini writhing suggestively against another woman while cream is being poured over her body.
The ad was actually banned locally by the Advertising Standards Bureau in 2010. However, the spot has again reared its controversial head, this time in Britain.
The commercial had been reworked for a British audience, and was originally given the okay to be aired after 9pm. However, a couple of days ago the ad was banned by Britain's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for being “sexist and degrading to women”.
The Brand Agency managing director Steve Harris told AdNews: "When we created the spot, the client clearly intended it to be controversial. I would definitely think that kind of reaction would be expected in Britain.
"Looking back to 2010, it's not our proudest moment."
Meanwhile, British industry group Clearcast, which pre-approves most television advertising in the UK, had originally cleared the ad for viewing, saying that because Anderson and her female assistant were portrayed as “confident business people”, the ad was “anything but degrading to women”.
