Retrenchments follow News Ltd launch of Vic sales arm

News Limited has announced the launch of its new Victorian sales team, News Australia Victoria, but the move has led to a number of redundancies.

Following the launch of News Australia NSW in September, the new News Australia Victoria team will combine the community, regional and metropolitan sales team for the southern state into one division.

Paul El Deir, general manager of advertising in Victoria, said, “The launch of News Australia Victoria means local advertisers can more efficiently engage this network – the largest in the state - with increased opportunities and in more creative and innovative ways.

"In addition, our ability to identify target audience segments such as young women, job seekers and sports fans in Victoria, through our many brands and platforms, allows advertisers to engage with their audience more intimately and ultimately providing them with a better result.”

But the news for staff has not been as exciting. The integration of the former sales teams into one state team has resulted in a number of job duplications and redundancies have followed in order to cancel this out.

News Australia Victoria counts Herald Sun, Sunday Herald Sun, Geelong Advertiser, The Weekly Times, mX, 33 Leader community newspapers and News Limited’s stable of stand-alone digital brands as part of its remit.
