Peter Cox vies for Fairfax seat

Independent media analyst Peter Cox has put his hand up for a board seat at Fairfax, pointing to concerns about how the company is currently managed.

Cox, who is a regular commentator for AdNews, said he has put his hand up because he feels he has the necessary “media, financial and technological” experience to help the company make decisions.

His move comes after Fairfax's prolonged battle with mining magnate and media investor Gina Rinehart, who has been pushing for two board seats for herself.

Fairfax has so far rejected Rinehart's attempts.

Cox told AdNews: “I do not expect this to be easy. There will be one of two existing board members who have to stand for re-election and I will be trying to get one fo those seats. Dislodging a sitting member will not be easy.

“Why Fairfax? I've been concerned about the company for some time. I've previously said the economic model is broken, and the Fairfax situation has continued to decline.

Two new members have been appointed by the board this year, James Millar and Jack Cowin.
