OMA: Funding good stuff.

The outdoor advertising industry has launched into a New Year campaign to advertise itself, and the “lesser-known” facts about out of home advertising.

The campaign, by the Outdoor Media Association, aims to tell advertisers and communities about off the “good stuff” funded by outdoor ads like public services and amenities.

It claims to contribute more than $275m in public infrastructure including bus stops, benches and phone booths, donate more than $15m in inventory each year to charities and help drive public safety messages.

The OMA also says that 75% of people surveyed appreciate outdoor ads because they give them something to look at out and about and 86% believe outdoor ads help brands stand out.

Charmaine Moldrich, CEO of the Outdoor Media Association, said: “Outdoor advertising is the only media that gives back to the community in this way, subsidising public amenities, including bus shelters, public toilets, park benches and transit infrastructure, as well as contributing to council fees and superannuation. It’s not a well-known fact in the community and we want to let people know how much we really contribute but we didn’t want to be too earnest about it.”

The campaign started on New Years Eve and is running across more then 600 outdoor billboard screens provided by Adshel , APN Outdoor, Bishopp, Executive Channel, goa , iOM, JCDecaux, Metrospace, Paradise, oOh! Media and ROVA.

It features a series of “happy and likeable” characters created by Born & Raised.
