The highly publicised return of Ten's local drama Offspring has debuted to an audience of 868,000 metro viewers. But Nine was once again the winner of the night with popular shows including A Current Affair and The Block: Sky High.

Offspring - fronted by actor Asher Keddie - returned to Network Ten last night after the finale of its third season last July, which rated over one million. While its 868,000 metro viewers meant it was placed 12th overall, it performed well in the key demographic markets - the 25-54 year olds, 18-49s and 16-39s. It was the third most-watched show in each of the categories, following Nine's The Big Bang Theory and The Block: Sky High which ranked first and second respectively.

Conversely, Ten's The Biggest Loser: The Next Generation fell to 596,000 metro viewers, putting it as the least most-watched program in the top 20 listing. This is significantly lower than its recent audiences of 728,000 (19 May) and 658,000 (13 May)

Nine was once again the overall winner of the night, hosting four of the top five most-watched shows. Nine News came in first place with 1.3 million metro viewers, followed by A Current Affair in third place with an audience of more than 1.18 million. The Big Bang Theory ranked fourth with 1.16 million metro viewers, while The Block: Sky High attracted 1.15 million metro viewers. The Block has consistently rated well over one million since its launch earlier in the month.

Meanwhile, Channel Seven stole second place with 1.2 million metro viewers tuning into Seven News. Other programs in the top 20 for seven included Today Tonight with 975,000, Home and Away with 920,000 and House Rules with 900,000. The latter has boosted viewers since it launch early last week when it garnered 803,000 metro viewers.

In terms of audience share, Nine and Seven were exactly on par with 29.2%, followed by the ABC with 18.9%. Network Ten was close behind with 17.4%, while SBS gained 4.6%. The data is from preliminary overnight figures from OzTam.
