News Limited to shut Melbourne Custom Publishing unit

Exclusive: News Limited is to close its Melbourne custom publishing business. News Custom Publishing staff have been made redundant ahead of the closure of the Melbourne office at the end of May.

While magazines such as Triple J are set to close, AdNews understands that operations will continue out of the NewsLifeMedia office in Alexandria, Sydney. Other magazines published in Melbourne are Chadstone Shopping Centre's Fashion Capital, the official programme for the Australian Grand Prix, Australia's Best Cars 2013 and Lifestyle Pools+ Outdoor Design.

Attempts to access the NCP website are met with a 'not available' message and in a statement, a spokesperson for News confirmed that "we are centralising our Custom publishing division, which will now be run out of Sydney."

She added that "a small number of roles in Melbourne" were affected.

"We hope to redeploy a number of those affected, but the unfortunate reality is that there won't be roles for everyone. Those who do leave the business will receive their full legal entitlements and will be offered counselling."

The News Magazines Custom division in Sydney publishes customer magazines for brands including Subaru, Institute of Chartered Accountants, Fitness First, Tourism of Australia, Dymocks, Golden Glow Natural Health Products, Space Furniture, Health Insurance Commission, Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, Breville and Vitasoy.
