Fairfax Media launches Newso
Fairfax Media Metro division will trial a partnership between the Brisbane Times website and Newso, which is an online platform that enables journalists and newsmakers to connect directly in one place. It provides a way for newsmakers to make instant comment on any issue, news article or person, allowing for the immediate exchange of information and a more seamless realtime news comment environment for sources and journalists.

Shortage of advertising and sales managers remains
According to the new Clarius Skills Index, the shortage of quality advertising and sales managers has eased, but in the face of demands to lift revenues in a tightening economy, it still remains high. There is still a shortage of more than 1,500 advertising and sales managers across Australia.

Lorna Jane launches video app
Lorna Jane is launching an interactive Facebook app this month that casts the user as the star of their own video. It is part of the athletic-wear label's campaign called "The Year of You", which is featured in its 115 store locations.

Next Digital acquires FutureLab
Australian digital agency Next Digital has acquired Asian agency FutreLab as part of a drive to expand in Asia. FutureLab Asia has a comprehensive portfolio of clients including well known brands such as Maxis, Johnson & Johnson, AirAsia and 7-Eleven. Effective today, FutureLab Asia will be rebranded as Next Digital.

Dame Elizabeth Murdoch turns 103
Rupert Mudoch's mother Dame Elisabeth Murdoch yesterday celebrated her 103rd birthday, and along with a cake was named a Freewoman of Melbourne city, the highest honour Melbourne can award a person. Other recipients of the award include Nelson Mandella, Sir Henry Bolte and Prince Phillip, the Duke of Endinburgh. Murdoch is a philanthropist and an avid music lover.
