Retail giant Myer has reappointed Ikon to its $40 million media account. AdNews understands Ikon has seen off a strong challenge from PHD, bringing an end to speculation about the future of the firm's Melbourne office.

Ikon, which established its Melbourne office to service the Myer account after it won the business from UM in November 2009, will relish the win.

It is a coup for new boss James Greet, who joined the STW-owned agency following a management purge in March. Former CEO Dan Johns' subsequently re-emerged at Mediabrands as group commercial director, while national digital director Ellie Rogers took on a senior sales role at Facebook.

Myer put its media out to pitch in May, with Ikon, PHD, Starcom and GroupM units MediaCom and Mindshare vying for the business.

Myer spent $41.76 million on main media in the 12 months to July 2013, down from $50.35 million in the prior corresponding period, according to Nielsen.

On Monday, Myer also put its creative account out to pitch, with Ogilvy's three-year contract signed last year now moot.
