Canberra's 'Human Brochure' campaign has exploded on social media in its second phase, attracting over 6,000 Twitter, Instagram and Facebook posts.

Canberra's social media-based tourism push, 'Human Brochure', has seen more than 6,000 Twitter, Facebook and Instagram posts uploaded by participants in its second phase.

The campaign, created by Sydney-based agency The Works, invited 500 tourists to visit Canberra and showcase their experiences on social media with the hashtag #HumanBrochure. The agency said over 31,000 people applied in the hope of being selected.

The second phase, held from 15 to 17 February, saw 250 consumers visit the ACT, with the campaign garnering traction on social media with more than 6,000 posts. Twitter led the charge with 3,443 messages sent, followed by Instagram with 2,190 pictures uploaded. Facebook had 743 posts, accompanied by 80 check-ins to geo-location app Foursquare.

the launch phase in October last year saw 250 consumers visit the region to participate in various activities including in food and wine, arts, culture and adventure. A total of over 8,000 social media posts were generated over that period.

A total of more than14,500 posts were calculated for both weekends, with the campaign estimated to have reached 4.3 million people across social media.

Australian Capital Tourism director Ian Hill described the push as having a "fantastic level of engagement".

The Works director and creative partner Douglas Nicol said social media was the perfect platform to promote Canberra, due to the power of positive word-of-mouth among consumers.
