MediaCom has hired Helen Black from UM as national head of strategy.

MediaCom boss Mark Pejic said Black, who helped shape strategy for the Australian Government, Microsoft, Brown Forman and the Coca-Cola while at UM, had the right credentials for the agency's strategic aspirations. "We are focused on attracting and securing the brightest youthful talent the Australian market has to offer and Helen represents the best,” he said.

Black will will report into chief strategy officer Paul Payne who said she was "a proven leader, plus a champion of collaboration who understands the absolute need for accountable strategic product".

Black said she relished the opportunity. "MediaCom is passionate about developing creative and effective communications solutions and I share that passion. I look forward to working with such great talent and great clients in that continual effort."

Black will be supported by each market head of strategy: Matthew Maroni in Sydney; Mike Deane in Melbourne and James De Bond in Brisbane.

It is not yet clear whether UM plans to replace Black in Sydney where she was strategy director.
