Ten enters rugby rights scrum: The Australian Financial Review reports that Ten Network Holdings executive chairman Hamish McLennan believes that in order to compete with rival networks Seven and Nine, Ten needs a winter sport and is interested in getting Super Rugby free to air.

ABC should brace for cuts: The Australian reports that former ABC chairmen Maurice Newman and Donald McDonald say the public broadcaster should accept there are going to be cuts in the federal budget, with McDonald who was chairman for 10 years highlighting that the ABC have been fortunate in knowing its annual fixed revenue.

APN commits to Adshel: APN News & Media chief executive Michael Miller has ruled out selling the companies 50% stake in outdoor company Adshel, telling The Australian that APN made a descsion last year that its primary focus would be on the outdoor company.

ABC and SBS merger "wrong": Joseph Skrzynski, whose term as SBS chairman ended last month has told The AFR that an Abbott government merger of the ABC and the SBS would be “wrong in principle, bad economics, and even worse politics.”

E-mail still the way to go: Also in The AFR, according to a new study of Australian companies on their marketing budget priorities for 2014, e-mail is in the top five channels for increased investment and was pipped only by data and analytics programs.

Media reforms proposed for July: Comms Minister Malcolm Turnbull is aiming to get a package of media reforms in front of the Cabinet as early as July, The Australian reports. Turnbull wants to scrap old media concentration laws, including the 'two out of three' law, which prevents a single entity owning more than two of three licences (for newspaper, TV and radio) in the same market.
