MEC sees off Starcom to keep Mitsubishi Motors and lands SA Gov extension

MEC has seen off Starcom to keep the $45m Mitsubishi Motors Australian account. It's also landed a two-year extension to its South Australian Government contract.

While MEC had held the account for 20 years, it was by no means a shoe-in, given the firm has just apointed a new president and CEO for Australia. MEC though kept the account, with strong digital capabilities cited as a key factor.

The SA Government deal, thought to be a $30 million account, tops off a good month for the firm.

We have had a long and successful relationship with Mitsubishi, but a full-blown pitch is always a good opportunity to demonstrate to a client that we are the best agency in the market to help them tackle the growing challenges in a changing and volatile landscape,” said MEC Adelaide managing director Peter Bucklow.

“The vote of confidence from both Mitsubishi and the South Australian Government caps off an incredible first quarter of growth, during which we welcomed Tiger and the Seven Network as clients, added more talent and boosted our digital capabilities,” said Peter Vogel, CEO of MEC Australia.

It is understood that the company has three other smaller pitches "bubbling away" according to one source, thought to be in the region of $10 million each.
