The magazine industry has suffered an overall year-on-year decline of 5.6% for the six months to December 2011, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC).

As many as 97 titles posted a drop in circulation this cycle, while just 37 posted an increase.
ACP’s FHM Magazine posted the largest decline, falling 48.1% to 26,026 copies. On a positive note, Citrus Media’s Game Informer continued its stellar growth, increasing 55% to 43,405.
Both FHM Magazine and Game Informer were clear outliers. NewsLifeMedia’s MasterChef Magazine fell 33.4% to 99,872. On the upward trend, Nextmedia’s children’s title Little Angel followed Game Informer with a rise of 16.8%.
The men’s category continues to face steep declines, with ACP’s Zoo Weekly plummeting 26.9%. The only men’s magazine to buck the falling trend was Odysseus’ Australian Men’s Fitness whichincreased 11%.
The women’s category was also littered with bad news, although it fared better than others. ACP’s TV Week fell 11.1%, while Morrison Media’s Frankie was the star performer, with an increase of 14%.
The food and entertainment category also proved tough going. NewsLifeMedia’s Super Food Ideas followed MasterChef Magazine with a 21% drop to 201,690, but stalwart Donna Hay Magazine was up 13%.
