EXCLUSIVE: Macquarie University has appointed Sydney agency Banjo as its creative partner, amid changes to the education sector and increasing competition.
The appointment follows a creative review, after the uni split with its former agency Neon Creative.
Marketing director Kathy Vozella confirmed the appointment to AdNews. She said Banjo would help the uni in an increasingly competitive education sector. “After a strategic review, we determined that Banjo was best fit to help us in this new environment.”
Government caps which specify the number of students a university can accept were lifted earlier this year in an attempt to encourage more people to enter courses. Vozella said this has made the education sector increasingly competitive.
When AdNews spoke to Vozella in March, she said: “With more spots available at each university domestically, we have to be more competitive to make sure students pick us over other options. But we have to be aggressive on both the local and international stage.
"Globally, universities are competing more, particularly since the US market has opened up for students.”
Following the appointment, Macquarie University has restructured its marketing department, bringing its domestic and international teams together.
Vozella told AdNews: “We will now be a truly global marketing team. Not many of our competitors are doing this.”
