LivingSocial has claimed a group buying record with its Pizza Hut deal closing out at 163,093 take-ups, while the company took a dig at rival Scoopon's Hungry Jack's offer.
LivingSocial is claiming a record for the biggest-selling group buying deal in Australia, which saw the website sell 163,093 $2 pizzas.
Earlier this year, a Scoopon/Hungry Jack's deal sold out 675,000 offers. However, LivingSocial is differentiating between the two because the Scoopon deal didn't require an upfront financial commitment;.Customers only had to download vouchers and then pay in-person at Hungry Jack's chains.
LivingSocial Australia and New Zealand executive general manager Adam Rigby said: “LivingSocial's Pizza Hut deal was so compelling that Australians opened their wallets, not just clicked to download, showing their commitment to redeem."
While Rigby didn't explicity name Scoopon, it was clear what he was referring to.
“With 163,093 pizzas sold nationally, this is Australia's best group buying deal. The success of the offer shows that Australians are very much motivated by exciting deals at great prices. We'll be continuing to offer more great deals in the future.”
