For some, going into business with a family member is the ultimate nightmare. Not for Gerry and Eddie Bloe, the self-confessed "mad" Scottish twins running Brisbane creative agency, Bloe.
Gerry - the older of the two by a mere eight minutes - joined the full-service shop five weeks ago, which was first established by Eddie in 1992. Now, the agency is in its best health yet and has lured a suite of new clients, which the pair attributed to the meeting of their different minds.
"The business had lacked business development focus. Eddie and I were born with half a brain each and we compliment each other really nicely," Gerry told AdNews.
And it clearly resonated with clients. Regional super fund Austsafe, Addiction Sciences Queensland, Shire Property and Power Quality Consultants are some of the brands who've sided with the business since the brothers joined forces.
"We are in the final stages of securing new clients almost every day," Gerry said. "They include some large organisations in the retail, energy, healthcare and communications sector."
These add to an existing stable of clients including Jupiters Gold Coast, Lite n' Easy and Coral Homes.
But the twins also attribute the agency's recent success to its unique service model. Despite being full-service, the agency doesn't charge its clients what a regular full-service agency might. "We have formed relationships with service partners and we only employ those services as required," Gerry said. "That way the client only pays for what they use."
So what else is different about the Brisbane shop? Despite admitting it's subjective, Gerry said the agency's reputation for producing quality products was the one thing which every one of its customers will attest to.
And, "I can’t imagine there is another agency in Australia that’s run by two mad Scottish twins!," he said.
