Fairfax Media head of marketing and communications of Metro Media Robert Whitehead has vacated the role in the wake of sweeping changes to the media company's structure last week.
It is unclear if Whitehead has actually left the company and AdNews understands he may be redeployed within Fairfax. He had been in the position since September last year and was previously director of marketing and newspaper sales for The Sydney Morning Herald.
Whitehead is a veteran of Fairfax and in his time has also served as editor of SMH and director of group publishing.
Marketplaces director, strategy and marketing Kirsty Shaw has filled the role in an acting capacity.
Fairfax has been up-ended again with another wide-scale restructure of its operations. Last week, the company announced it would merge several business units including Metro Media and the Financial Review Group into one, Australian Publishing Media. Fairfax's transactional business, Marketplaces, will now come under the Digital Ventures division.
Metro Media chief executive Jack Matthews and chief operating officer David Hoath both left the company at the end of last week.
A single marketing and audience insight team will be created under the changes. On Friday, AdNews revealed group marketing director Briony Amey's remit had expanded to include The Sydney Morning Herald and Fairfax events. Amey also oversees marketing for The Age, The Canberra Times, Brisbane Times and WA Today.
