Facebook to mine political data for Seven election tie-up

Facebook, Seven and Yahoo!7 have teamed up to provide insights into Australians' views on the election, the issues and their voting intentions in the month-long lead-up to polling day.

The partnership will use insights from active political conversations happening on Facebook from the platform's 12 million active local users to generate a data dashboard. Those insights will be used in Seven News coverage as well as across the Yahoo!7 network.

Facebook head of communications Mia Garlick said: “With 12 million Australians active on Facebook, Facebook is the place where Australians are having conversations about political issues. By integrating this into Seven and Yahoo!7's election coverage, this collaboration can provide Australians with the most insightful news resource for the 2013 federal election.”

Yahoo!7 director of product Harry Burt said: “We know the way the Yahoo!7 audience views and consumers online content is changing. This partnership represents a highly engaging way we can deliver utility to our users and connect them to federal election content, conversations and experiences at any time and on any device.”
