Facebook Australia has placed its sales director Liam Walsh into the role of acting country head and director of commercial development and sales, as the company continues to search for a permanent chief executive.

The company has been on the hunt for a local boss since the departure of Paul Borrud six months ago.

Walsh has worked previously as managing director at Microfsoft Advertising and as general manager of sales and commercial at Fairfax Digital. He was also general manager of Emitch.

Facebook VP of Asia Pacific Erik Johnson said: "We are focused on recruiting for the Head of Australia and New Zealand role. We are looking for someone who can assist us with strategic global engagements, with government, industry and media as well as help us manage the Australia and New Zealand businesses together.

"We've set the bar really high. We are looking for somebody who probably has very unique skills in being able to manage a business, who understands the media landscape and understands the social landscape."

The search for a more permanent boss may carry on for several more months.
