Facebook ad revenue up 66%

Facebook has posted strong quarterly earnings with ad revenue up 66% to US$1.8bn. Mobile revenues made up 49% of ad revenue.

Total revenue for the third quarter stood at US$2.02bn, up 60% year on year.

The number of people using the site at least monthly increased 28% year on year to 1.19bn, although the company is increasingly focusing on daily users as a metric. In September, there were 728 million daily users on average, with 507 million of them accessing the site via mobile.

Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the results "show that we're prepared for the next phase, as we work to bring the next five billion people online and into the knowledge economy."

In Australia, Facebook has this year bolstered its presence and reorganising its structure, explanding sales, marketing, analytics and creative soltuions teams . The firm said it had doubled its Australian workforce as a result.

AdNews revealed in June that former Ikon head of digital Ellie Rogers would head up its agency team, and in September that Karren Rogers (nee Fisher) would join from ninemsn to help deliver video advertising. She starts today as strategic partner development - TV.

Facebook Australia now operates specific industry teams across FMCG, retail and auto, media and government, financial services and travel, technology, telco and entertainment.
