Queensland energy supplier Energex has closed an extensive tender process for its $1.3 million creative account.

Incumbent agency Clemenger BBDO Queensland declined to comment on whether it was re-pitching for the account, however industry sources are confident the agency would have re-entered the tender process.

Other agencies involved in the tender known to AdNews include Junior and George Patterson Y&R Brisbane. The latter has a keen eye on the account having held it prior to Clemenger.

An Energex spokesperson confirmed the pitch was for the creative account and was part of their standard procurement process. The media account currently held by MediaCom will not be affected by the process.

Energex refused to provide further information about a shortlist of agencies involved in the tender, or when it is planning on finalising a decision. It is understood a decision will be made in June.

Energex is one of three major power suppliers in Queensland, including Ergon, which is jointly held by Decoder, AJF Partnership Sydney and Khemistry. AGL is the other power supplier and is held by GPY&R. Based in South East Queensland, it distributes electricity to more than 1.3 million residential, industrial and commercial customers. The core business is worth more than $9.8 billion with nearly 4000 employees.
