News Limited group marketing director Ed Smith will tomorrow leave the company as British Sky Broadcasting senior marketer Corin Dimopoulos moves to Australia to take on his role.

Smith will join Foxtel to work for former colleague and CEO of Foxtel Richard Freudenstein in the newly-created role of executive director of sales and marketing, departing News Limited after five years with the company in various roles.

British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) senior marketer Corin Dimopoulos will move to Australia to replace Smith at News Limited, beginning the role in April.

Foxtel's director of marketing Chantal Walker and director of sales Marco Miranda will remain in their positions, reporting to Smith in his new combined consumer and business marketing and sales position.

News Limited chief executive Kim Williams said: “He joins Foxtel with my full support. News Limited's shareholding in Foxtel is a key strategic investment and I am delighted that it will benefit from his exceptional sales and marketing expertise.”

Foxtel CEO Richard Freudenstein said: “This is an incredibly exciting period for Foxtel.  Ed will have responsibility for marketing and selling Foxtel's most fantastic product offering yet including for the first time every game of the AFL live and in full, the most comprehensive Olympics broadcast ever, and the greatest choice of channels offered by any Australian broadcaster – available across multiple platforms.

“Having worked closely with Ed for the past five years at News Limited, I know he is perfectly suited to the role. He led the transformation of the company’s marketing function and played a key role in the build and launch of its digital subscription platform and products.”

In joining News Limited, Dimopoulos will be responsible for acquiring, servicing and retaining customers across the company's hundreds of newspapers, magazines, websites, tablet and mobile applications.

Williams said: "Corin is one of News Corporation's finest marketing executives and his work at Sky, particularly across sports, has been exemplary. His experience of growing large and highly profitable audiences in a subscription environment will prove invaluable as we continue the rollout of digital subscription products across our mastheads."
