It was a gossip columnist's departure across the ditch at the root of celebrity Charlotte Dawson's recent excitement - a woman she says drove her out of New Zealand.

And now Dawson appears to be having the last laugh.

On Twitter, Dawson - Australia's Next Top Model judge and contender in the upcoming Celebrity Apprentice series - wrote Sunday: "Well the chickens came home to roost. I'm going to love 2012! Karma is perfect. Many happy people this morning" and "best news ever, the bully culture removed at last

Dawson was referring to the sudden departure of Rachel Glucina, gossip columnist of APN's Herald on Sunday tabloid.

Glucina is understood to have had a tumultuous relationship with newspaper staff and its recently appointed editor, Bryce Johns, who said the gossip queen's depature marks a change in his paper's "tone".

She will write a reduced column for the Herald on Sunday's sister paper, the New Zealand Herald.

Prior to moving to Sydney - and even after she transferred - Dawson regularly appeared on Glucina's pages, in predominantly negative stories.

Dawson told 60Minutes last year that the gossip columnist was one of the reasons she quit New Zealand.

"Rachel Glucina is definitely part of the reason I left New Zealand," Dawson told the current affairs show. "I think she just became incredibly personal."

Dawson said celebrities were treated better in Australia. "You just don't get any of that in Sydney...I don't experience any of that, nothing like the vitriol that New Zealand dishes to those who are high-profile."
