Coca-Cola, McDonald's and Ikea swept all before them in 2012 according to the Gunn global media rankings. OMD was Gunn's number one agency network while Group M was the top holding company of the year.

Mindshare was the number two agency, Omnicom Media Group, was second holding company of the year with Publicis Groupe placed third.

Gunn uses a points system based on awards won to rank companies.

Gunn's evaluators did not chose a media campaign of the year, instead highlighting half a dozen award winners that delivered both innovation and results. Daimler's Smart Eyeball, Engagement Citoyen's the Return of Dictator Ben Ali, Google's Voice Search, McDonald's Coin Hunting, Pepsi's Bottle Light and make the Politicians Work from URA.ru were all highlighted by the report.
