The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has added an Innovation category to its awards in a bid to celebrate technology and innovation in the field.
The addition of the new section coincides with the awards' 60th anniversary and aims to honour the use of technology and innovation in creative work. It will cover aspects including but not limited to apps, tools, programmes, hardware and products.
Entrants are required to submit a written proposal and proof of concept, with shortlisted candidates asked to explain their technology to the jury with a short presentation and question and answer session. Work can be submitted from 24 January to 19 April 2013.
The jury will award an Innovation Grand Prix and Innovation Lions to the chosen winners during the festival on Tuesday 18 June. The festival operates from 16-22 June 2013 in Cannes France.
Lions Festivals' chairman Terry Savage said in a statement: “Big ideas that are executed using innovative forms of technology such as Nike+ Fuelband, winner of the 2012 Titanium Grand Prix and The Invisible Car, winner of the 2012 Outdoor Grand Prix, are already being recognised and awarded in Cannes.
"Innovation Lions are different. They will pay tribute to the actual technology that is driving the industry forward and making it possible for these incredible award winning ideas to come to fruition, allowing the creative community to communicate with customers in a unique way.”
