Cadbury says Facebook can choose your chocs

Does what you like on Facebook correlate with what type of chocolate bar you should be consuming? Cadbury think so and have created the Joy Generator in the heart of Sydney to try and prove it.

The virtual vending machine known as The Joy Generator lets users log into their Facebook profile and receive their personalised flavour match which is automatically dispensed (for free), before taking a snap with their flavour in a social media-enabled picture booth.

So does it work? When entering my details in the Joy Generator I received Cadbury's Dairy Milk Crunchie and when enquiring what that said about me and my Facbook profile I was told that I enjoyed music festivals, alternative music and romantic comedy's – well played Cadbury's, well played.

Julian Polachek, corporate affairs manager at Mondelez told AdNews: “There's a bit of research and science that goes into it as well as a bit of magic,” he said.

“We have flavorologists inside the organisation, their hard title would be consumer insights, so what we do is we take some of the data from them which is a demographic break down of sales state by state and then we match it to insights, but the real trick of it is marrying that up to a range of likes and interests on Facebook.”

It isn't just the magic that gets people excited its also the fact that people may be trying a new flavor for the first time.

Carla Filia, marketing manager for Cadbury Dairy Milk told AdNews: “What we do know from consumer research is that our fans usually buy one product that they know and love, they are really passionate about new flavours but they forget to try or re-try flavours.”

“So this is giving them an opportunity by determining what we think what their flavour match is and product they may have not have tried themselves.”

Cadbury House will be at Sydney’s Customs House forecourt today from 10am-6pm before moving to Melbourne’s Federation Square on 23 and 24 June from 10am and 6pm across both days.

If you can't make it to either venue there is also a virtual Joy Generator app via Cadbury's Facebook page which will launch in coming weeks where you can be matched with Milk Chocolate ,Hazelnut, Peppermint, Roasted Almond,Fruit & Nut , Rocky Road, Crunchie, Snack, Caramello, Turkish Delight,Top Deck and Black Forest.

The Joy Generator was created in collaboration with The Red Agency.
