Full-service mobile company Big Mobile is expanding into New Zealand and Indonesia, as it forecasts 70% smartphone ownership in Australia by summer.

Big Mobile will open an office in Jakarta, to be headed up by regional director Alan Billington. The company has signed a long-term partnership with Indonesia telecommunications provider XL Axiata.

The company is also expanding into New Zealand, having secured partnerships with Yahoo! NZ, Telecom NZ, Vodafone and broadcaster TVNZ. Big Mobile is recruiting for someone to run its New Zealand office. Australia will become the regional hub for Big Mobile with headquarters in Sydney.

Locally, Big Mobile is forecasting 70% smartphone penetration by the end of summer. Big Mobile group commercial director Graham Christie told AdNews the figure was based on market data including the growth of Android devices.

Christie said: "The continued expansion of Big Mobile into Asia-Pacific is a great Australian success story that enables us to deliver our thinking, creativity and technology far and wide."

In addition to the two new offices, Big Mobile has offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Los Angeles and London.
